“Bella are you ready.” It was Alice she had been by my side ever since we got back from Paris. “I’m ready Alice; we’ve been here for an hour when are we going to start this thing.” “Don’t worry Edward is taking some tips from Carlisle.” I was getting worried because ever since we got here he seemed a little tense and wouldn’t say a word. But I was still curious about one thing. It seemed to be a really important thing and if anyone knew the answer Alice would.
“Alice do you know if I will have any certain gifts or any at all?” “Now Bella, what you have to understand is that what I do is foretell events by choices that are made.” “I can’t tell what you will be able to do all I can do is see that you will be a vampire, so that should be enough right.” “Yeh, that will be enough,” and it was just to know that I would be with Edward for eternity would be just fine.
“Bella, are you ready Carlisle said we should get this thing over with as soon as possible.” It was the honey sweet voice that I loved to hear, it was Edward. “So we have to do this now?” “No, we just have to get it started by the end of the day. In fact it might be better to do it tonight; if it’s sunny when it’s over . . . well we don’t want to through to much at you at once. You’ll still be coping with the thirst.” He said the word with a bit of resentment. I was happy that we would do it tonight that way I could do a couple of things that I had always wanted to do as a human that I wouldn’t find appealing as a vampire. “Um, Edward there were things that I wanted to do before tonight.” “Really Bella we already did that.” “Not that stupid she’s talking about going to eat her last hamburger, go cliff diving with you, ride a motorcycle . . . get your head out of the gutter.” It was Alice she sounded angry. “Oh Edward sometimes I swear that you can be so stupid about something’s.”
Then we went cliff diving just outside of La Push. “Okay Bella are you ready. I’ll keep my hand around yours so don’t worry.” “Edward I’ve done this before I’ll be okay.”
“If you say so.” Then we walked over to the ledge. “Okay on three, one, and two . . . three!” We jumped. As we fell Edward closed his eyes and angled his body into a vertical slant. I tried to do the same. I just spiraled to the water. Edward caught me just before we hit the water. Then we sank. We fell twenty feet. Then Edward Let me go and grabbed my hand. Then he started to kick to the surface. We reached it in five seconds, I inhaled heavily. “Are you okay Bella?” “Yes that just startled me for a second.” “Oh this coming for miss ‘I can do this, I’ve done it before’.”
We went to get a burger at the restaurant near the house. “So why is it so important to eat before you turn into one of us?” “It’s not just eating, a burger is just a wonderful way to say good bye to everything I know and start a new life with you, or should I say death?” “When you say it like that I have to say that that is a good reason to be eating at a time like this, waiter one more hamburger please.” He said with such enthusiasm it was hard to believe this was actually my Edward. “Yes sir,” said the waitress who was just about to hand us our check, she looked annoyed. “Edward I don’t want another Burger.” I was confused. “It’s not for you, it’s for me.” “Why?” “You said that you wanted to say good bye to everything you know and love with a burger and I have to agree that that is a good way to say good bye to one life and start a new one with you.” “But I thought you didn’t eat normal food.” This one had to get him stumped. “Remember the year you came here, you asked me what would happen if we ate human food?” “Yes, I do remember that. But, can you even taste it? I mean you drink blood don’t you only have taste for that?” “No we can taste everything you can, can’t you taste dirt. Just because you don’t eat something doesn’t mean you can’t taste it.” “That makes since I guess.”
The waitress came with Edward’s Burger he smelled it and took a huge bite out of it. “It’s not going to try and run away like a bitten mountain lion, take your time and savor the flavor or at least enjoy it.” He looked appalled like I had just hurt something dear to him. “Excuse me for enjoying the burger. It’s actually pretty good. I never could remember if I had one of these burgers in my human life. There’s only one thing I remember . . . well you’ll know what that’s like in a couple of days.” Yeh, in a couple of days.” Then the thing I had secretly dreaded all day started to happen. I stated to cry.
“Bella, I know it’s going to be painful . . .” “. . . No Edward it’s not that, I’m just really nervous, what if something goes wrong, what if you can’t resist to feed. What if the pain is too much, if I’m an exception and die from the venom!?” “Bella, Bella, Bella it’s going to be okay, nothing will happen to you. Carlisle will be there and Emmett will be there to pull me off if I do go berserk, and the pain no big deal, you’re so much stronger than me and Emmett combined, we both would have been screaming like sissy girls by now. You are going to be okay.” “Thank you, I needed that, I guess I should be a little more anxious, a little crying isn’t that much compared to what’s going to happen to night?” “Yes you should, you being so calm about this was starting weird me out, it’s good to know that some sanity is still in there.” “Was that a compliment or an insult?” “A little bit of both.” He ate the rest of his hamburger, then we went back home.
“Bella we’re all going to be here during the change, of course we’ll leave you and Edward alone for the majority of the time. Will that be okay?” It was Carlisle. “Of course, that will be just fine.” I was so nervous I was shaking all over. “Bella your not going all werewolf on us are you?” Emmett was being well Emmett. “Shut up, according to Edward you screaming like a little girl when you were turned.” “Ouch Bella, that hurt my ego. Oh yeh, Alice was telling me that you were asking about certain gifts you might attain, well I thought about it and I have come to a decision, you will have the ability to call on your fish friends!” Now he was just being retarded. “Emmett?” “Yes Mrs. Fish.” “Do yourself a favor and shut up.” “Oh and Bella wins!” It was Jasper and he was trying to calm us down with his special ability.
“Okay Bella lets get this thing started.” Carlisle was talking. “O-okay. Edward are you ready.” “Yes, let’s do this.” He took in an unneeded breath. “Edward just be strong you can do this.” “Bella can you just worry about your self.” He sounded like he was on the verge of crying. Then our family walked out of the room.
Edward put his head on my neck and I could have sworn I felt ice cold tears running down my throat. “Are you ready?” “Yes.”
He started to kiss my throat, then he opened his mouth more than he usually did and then his teeth sank into my neck.
Then the fire came.
